Laser damage to the human eye  

  

Laser damage to the human eye is mainly due to the laser energy is too high, into the human eye will be focused to form a high energy density spot, causing retinal damage, serious may lead to blindness.  Laser damage is related to its wavelength, power, duration and other factors.  

 

Eyes exposed to laser radiation may experience the following types of damage:  

 

1. Retinal burning: When the power density of the laser exceeds the range that the retina can withstand, retinal burning will occur, causing retinal tissue destruction, and the degree of damage is related to the laser power, wavelength and duration.  

 

2. Macular disease: The macula is a part of the retina that is mainly responsible for visual processing of central light.  When the macula is exposed to laser radiation, it may cause macular degeneration, resulting in decreased vision.  

 

3. Lens opacity: The lens is a transparent tissue in the eye, and when the laser passes through the cornea and iris and focuses on the lens, it may cause lens opacity, resulting in blurred vision.  

 

4. Corneal damage: The cornea is the transparent tissue of the outermost layer of the eye, and when the laser intensity is high, it will cause burning and ulcers on the surface of the cornea, and may even lead to blindness.
