What are the medical uses of holmium laser?
Holmium laser is a solid laser with holmium (Ho:YAG) as the activation medium. It is produced by doping holmium elements into yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) crystals to generate laser beams under specific energy excitation. The wavelength of holmium laser is generally around 2.1μm, which is in the mid-infrared band.
Holmium laser can be used to treat cervical diseases such as cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and cervical polyps. It can accurately remove diseased tissues, and at the same time has a good hemostatic effect, reducing the risk of intraoperative bleeding and postoperative infection. In the treatment of cervical diseases, holmium laser surgery is relatively simple, patients recover faster after surgery, and have less impact on the physiological function of the cervix.
For endometrial diseases such as endometrial polyps and submucosal fibroids, holmium laser can be operated through hysteroscopy. It can accurately cut and vaporize the diseased tissue, reduce damage to the uterine myometrium, reduce the incidence of surgical complications such as uterine perforation, and is beneficial to the recovery of the patient's reproductive function after surgery.
